Google Business Profile for home inspectors: a setup guide.

Your Google Business Profile is the listing that appears in Google Maps and in the map section of local search results. For most inspectors, it's one of the most important pieces of local SEO. Here's how to set it up properly.

Pick the right category

Choose "Home inspector" as your primary category. Add secondary categories only if they match services you really offer. Extra categories that don't fit can do more harm than good.

Set a service area, not a storefront

Most inspectors travel to the property and don't see clients at an office. If that's you, set up as a service-area business: list the towns or regions you cover and hide your street address. Keep the service area realistic, matching where you'll actually drive.

Use your real business name

Use your business name exactly as it appears on your signage, website, and paperwork. Adding keywords or town names to your business name goes against Google's guidelines and can get a profile suspended.

Add real photos

Photos of you, your truck, your tools, and examples of what you find (with client details removed) look more trustworthy than stock images.

List your services

Add each inspection service you offer, with a short plain description. Use the same service names on your website.

Ask for reviews and reply to them

Send a review link after every job and reply to reviews, good and bad, briefly and professionally. Never pay for reviews or offer discounts in exchange.

Keep it current

Update hours for holidays, add new photos now and then, and make sure your phone and website link stay correct. Your profile and your website should agree.
